I’m all about supporting local artists so I try my best to stay in the know, but it turns out Toronto’s actually booming with up and comers- so much so that it’s hard to keep up with all of them. Enter Korean-Canadian J. Reyez, acting as his own writer, producer, sound engineer, graphic designer, music video director and editor, he’s part of the new age legion of artists who do most of the behind-the-scenes work themselves. Reyez has got some decent flow and seems to have got the producing down pat with a handful of banger tunes. Hopefully he’ll be showcasing his rhyming versatility over his future releases, but ‘till then, bump to this sappy track.

Regarded as a blasphemous, apathetic, attention whore, Shane Morris TAFKA California Cornbread is a comedian, a realist, an entrepreneur, an intellectual, an activist, an aspiring politician, and more recently: Tumblr’s Most Wanted. California Cornbread, Morris’ stomping grounds of more than 4 years, ripe with over 38,000 followers, was shut down by those in power because of complaints of “Hate Speech”. Writing under the persona of a “redneck, antichrist, superhero” Morris has enraged thousands upon thousands on a daily basis for years with his asinine political and social commentary. Clearly it’s all the work of a satirical genius, and as Morris has on numerous instances defended, they aren’t necessarily his opinions.
Still, the hyperbolic writing is humorous to read and actually raises concerns and awareness over matters that, growing up in a world where the PlayStation and porn take precedent, would otherwise never be of interest. Those without the taste or open mind for such dark humor should just ignore and stay away from Morris’ blog instead of letting the clever redneck get under their skin. Known for their intense live shows and innovative ability to mix a multitude of genres, the brothers Krispy and Joey, collectively known as The Knux feature none other than one Mr. Solo Dolo, Kid Cudi who continues his hip-hop X rock endeavors. It’s poppy as fcuk, has a serious summer/bbq/beach vibe, features just the right talent-to-swag ratio, and will grow on you over a couple plays. Chekkit !

This is some funky retro sounding doo wop shit which at first hear I couldn’t care less for. But as the song went on, as Andre dropped his hot and effortless verse, as Lil’ Wayne continued to mumble on, and as Lloyd cried “dat pussy” far too many times, it just stuck with me. Paralleling Cee Lo’s “Fuck You” in terms of profane-infused pop, I see this totally becoming a hit.
